By Belize Live News Staff: A 23 year old chef went to a six a side football final in Carmelita Village with his wife and their two year old son. He came home chopped.
Police say the trouble started with words. A group nearby, drinking and backing the winning team, began throwing taunts his way because he was supporting the other side.
It stayed verbal until the final whistle.
Then a man came over shouting insults and pointing in his face. Before he could respond, someone grabbed him from behind, put him in a chokehold and pulled him out of his chair.
The whole thing turned into a group confrontation. When he tried to run, a third man cut him off with an orange handled machete and struck him repeatedly across his head, back and limbs. Bystanders had to step in to stop it.
He made it to the roadside, got home, and called police.
At the hospital that night the volume was so high he only received pain medication. He returned days later to have his injuries formally certified as wounding.
One man is wanted.
