He showed up drunk with a protection order in effect

By Belize Live News Staff: The order took effect on New Year’s Day. It was supposed to buy her a year of peace. Seven and a half months in, according to her report, her former husband walked right through it.

The Belize Police Department reports that a 44-year-old Bladen Village woman came to the Bella Vista Police Station on Friday morning, August 14, 2026, carrying the two things that matter most in cases like hers: her account, and her copy of the court order.

Her account goes like this. Thursday evening, around 7:00, she was at home when her former husband arrived, appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, and went to speak to their daughter. An ordinary family scene in any other yard. In hers, an alleged offence, because a protection order has stood between them since January 1, 2026, good for a full year, and his arrival at her home, the report states, breached it.

Police took her statement, retrieved the order, and detained a 42-year-old farmer of the village, cautioning him and informing him of the report. No charge has been laid yet, so no names appear here, and the allegation remains hers for the process to test.

Here is what every reader living behind one of these orders should take from Bladen Village. A protection order is not a suggestion, and it carries no exceptions for a few drinks, a visit meant for the children, or the pull of old familiarity. The line it draws is legal, and stepping across it, for any reason, is the offence.
