The work week starts hot with 95 inland again

By Belize Live News Staff: Back to work, Belize, and the weather clocked in early with its usual August energy: full sunshine, serious heat, and one regional exception written in rain.

The National Meteorological Service reports a light to moderate easterly airflow steering the day, delivering sunny skies with a few cloudy spells for most of the country. Tonight turns partly cloudy, clouding over at times, especially down south, and that is where the forecast splits: showers and thunderstorms stay isolated countrywide, except over the south, which collects a few extra outbreaks through the morning hours and again late at night.

The heat plays no favourites, though. Inland communities bake at 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 Celsius) before easing to 74 (23 Celsius) overnight. The coast tops out at 89 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) with a warm low of 82 (28 Celsius), while the hills reach 83 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius) and cool to a comfortable 68 (20 Celsius). The Monday survival kit stays the same, water close, shade often, and mercy on anyone working the afternoon sun.

The sea offers the gentlest commute in the country, with easterly winds of 10 to 15 knots, a light chop, and waves of just 2 to 4 feet, fine conditions for the boats from the cayes to the coast.

The tropics remain on their best August behaviour, with no cyclone formation expected anywhere in the region over the next 48 hours.

Tuesday runs the same play: partly cloudy to cloudy spells, isolated showers for most, and the south again drawing the extras, a pattern southern residents can plan around while the rest of the country enjoys the dry side of the divide.

As for the tides, today’s lows fall at 7:08 AM and 7:17 PM, with highs at 1:02 PM and 1:18 AM tomorrow. The sun rose at 5:32 AM and sets this evening at 6:24 PM. This forecast was prepared by forecaster Catherine Cumberbatch.
