She said she wasn’t feeling well, a day later she was gone

By Belize Live News Staff: Her last known words were the quiet kind that families replay forever. On Saturday morning, a 21-year-old Belize City woman, eight months along and carrying complications, told the man checking on her that she was not feeling well. By Sunday morning, the door to her upstairs room was locked, and the silence behind it held the answer no one wanted.

The Belize Police Department reports that word of a sudden death reached police at about 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, bringing officers to a building at the corner of Vernon Street and Amandala Drive.

A 44-year-old man led them upstairs. He had come to check on the young woman at about 9:00 a.m., found the room locked, and forced the door, discovering her motionless, seated in a corner of the room. She appeared to have passed some time before she was found. He called police at once.

The young woman, a 21-year-old domestic of the area, carried a medical history that now sits at the centre of the investigation. Epileptic seizures had shadowed her for years. Her pregnancy had reached the third trimester with complications, serious enough that she was under care, last seen by medical personnel at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital about two weeks ago for a prenatal checkup.

Her body now rests at the National Forensic Science Service laboratory awaiting a post mortem examination, the procedure that must speak where she no longer can. Police have signalled no suspicion of foul play, and the matter remains under investigation.

In keeping with this publication’s policy, her name is not published here. What can be said is the shape of the loss: a young woman at the threshold of motherhood, and the child she carried, a grief counted twice in one room.

To her family, Belize Live News extends its deepest condolences.
