Same officer, same night: second unpapered bike stopped in Guinea Grass

By Belize Live News Staff: Five minutes before charging one Guinea Grass rider over missing paperwork, the same patrolling officer had already stopped another, and that first stop has now produced a triple traffic charge of its own.

According to the Belize Police Department, on Friday, July 31, 2026, at about 10:40 p.m., an officer conducting motorcycle patrol within Guinea Grass Village noticed a motorcycle carrying two people and making a lot of noise. The officer caught up with the rider and requested his driver’s licence.

The licence produced had expired since June 5, 2026, and the rider was informed of the offence of driving without a valid Belize driver’s licence. Asked for the insurance, the rider stated the motorcycle was not insured, and further checks revealed the motorcycle was unlicensed as well, completing the full set of missing paperwork.

He was informed of all the offences, detained, cautioned, and escorted to the Guinea Grass Sub Station, where he was identified as Randel Rafael Perrera, a 20-year-old labourer of Guinea Grass Village. He was informed of his constitutional rights and voluntarily signed the custody record.

That same date, police formally arrested and charged Perrera with three traffic offences: driving a motor vehicle not covered by third-party risk insurance, driving an unlicensed motor vehicle, and driving without a valid Belize driver’s licence. Cautioned once more, he chose to remain silent.

Bail was granted in the sum of $500, and he is to appear at the Orange Walk Magistrate Court at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, the same morning as the rider stopped minutes after him on the same patrol.

As with any matter before the court, Perrera is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The back-to-back stops bring the recent tally to four riders and eleven charges over unpapered motorcycles in under two weeks, across Belmopan, Orange Walk Town, and now twice in one night in Guinea Grass, a pattern that suggests the patrols are checking everywhere, and finding plenty.
