Night patrol nets another uninsured motorcycle in the north

Insurance

By Belize Live News Staff: The driver’s licence was valid. For one hopeful moment on a Guinea Grass street on Friday night, the paperwork was winning. Then came the second question.

The Belize Police Department reports that an officer on patrol in the village at about 10:45 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, noticed a rider who stopped at the sight of police. The licence check passed cleanly. The insurance check did not, the rider admitted the motorcycle carried none, and further checks found the bike unlicensed as well.

Two offences, one caution, and a trip to the Guinea Grass Sub Station followed, where the rider was identified as David Eliazar Efrain Perez, 18, of the village. His rights were read, the custody record signed, and the formal charges laid the same date: riding without third-party risk insurance and riding an unlicensed motorcycle. He met the final caution with silence.

Bail came in at $500, with a 9:00 a.m. appearance set at the Orange Walk Magistrate Court for Wednesday, August 5.

Perez, as with anyone charged, holds the presumption of innocence unless and until the court rules otherwise.

Keep count with us: Belmopan, Orange Walk Town, and now Guinea Grass, three riders, three unpapered bikes, and eight charges between them inside two weeks. The patrols are clearly checking, night and day, and the district’s motorcycles are failing the quiz at a steady rate.

The math for every rider remains stubbornly simple. The insurance and the licence cost a known sum once a year. The stop costs bail, court, and a record. And the crash without insurance costs somebody everything. Half-right paperwork, as Friday night showed, still counts as wrong.
