A bright start to August as the holiday weekend arrives

By Belize Live News Staff: New month, new page, and the weather signed it beautifully. August opens across Belize with mainly fair, mostly dry skies, sunshine for Emancipation Day, and a holiday weekend the forecast fully intends to cooperate with.

The National Meteorological Service reports mostly sunny conditions today, turning partly cloudy tonight, with showers, if any at all, staying isolated. July’s parting tropical wave has cleared, and the promised fair weekend has arrived on schedule.

The heat comes along for the celebration. Inland areas will bake at 94 degrees Fahrenheit (34 Celsius) before easing to 73 (23 Celsius) overnight. The coast tops out at 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 Celsius) with a comfortable low of 80 (27 Celsius), while the hills reach 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius) and cool to a fresh 68 (20 Celsius). For the drumming, the ceremonies, and every gathering marking Emancipation Day, the sun will be generous, so pack the water and claim the shade.

The sea has calmed from Friday’s small craft caution, offering east to northeast winds of 10 to 20 knots, moderate seas, and waves of 4 to 6 feet, workable water for the weekend’s boaters with the usual good judgment.

The tropics open the month in their best behaviour, with no cyclone formation expected anywhere in the region over the next 48 hours, a quiet start Belize will gladly take as the season’s peak months approach.

Sunday keeps the gift going, generally fair with only isolated showers, before the south collects a few showers or thunderstorms Sunday night, the gentlest of footnotes on a golden weekend.

As for the tides, today’s high comes at 11:29 AM with another at 12:16 AM tomorrow, and lows at 6:17 PM and 6:15 AM. The sun rose at 5:32 AM and sets this evening at 6:25 PM. This forecast was prepared by forecaster Crystal Rosalez.
