Two intruders spotted inside Trial Farm house before lumber vanished

By Belize Live News Staff: Anyone building a home bit by bit knows the sacrifice behind every piece of material on site. One Orange Walk property owner is now counting his losses after twenty-five pieces of lumber disappeared from his unfinished house in Trial Farm Village.

The first sign of trouble came on the night of July 11. At 9:34 p.m., a relative living near the property off West San Martin Street called the owner to report seeing two young men inside his unfinished 28 by 34 foot concrete house. She confronted the individuals and told them to leave.

Just over a week later, on Sunday, July 19, the owner visited the site around 5:30 p.m. and made the discovery: twenty-five pieces of lumber, each 2 inches by 10 inches by 12 feet, were gone, the kind of material loss that sets a construction project back significantly.

The owner, a self-employed Belizean from the Palmar area of Orange Walk Town, reported the matter to the Trial Farm Police Sub-Station the same day. He told officers he does not know the men his relative saw and cannot think of anyone who would interfere with his property. He has requested court action.

Theft from construction sites remains a painful and familiar problem for Belizeans building their homes. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact police.
