Perfect skies for final day as a system brews far to the north

By Belize Live News Staff: The biggest Sunday of the year arrives dressed in sunshine. Belize wakes to mostly sunny skies, light winds, and gentle seas, with the weather promising zero interference when the nation gathers at 1:00 p.m. for the World Cup final.

The National Meteorological Service reports a light, warm, and mostly dry easterly airflow over the country. Expect mostly sunny skies through the day and clear to partly cloudy conditions tonight, with only isolated showers anywhere in the forecast.

There is one development on the wider map worth knowing about. A broad surface low over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico now carries a high chance of becoming a tropical depression later today or tomorrow. Before anyone reaches for the hurricane supplies, the geography matters: that system is far to the north of Belize, in the Gulf waters near the US coast, and the Met Service is clear that elsewhere in the region, tropical cyclone formation is not expected over the next 48 hours. For Belize, it is a headline to monitor, not a reason to worry, and we will keep following it.

At home, the heat is the only intensity on offer. Inland areas roast at 94 degrees Fahrenheit (34 Celsius) before easing to 74 (23 Celsius). The coast reaches 89 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) with a warm low of 82 (28 Celsius), while the hills top out at 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius) and cool to 68 (20 Celsius).

Boaters get another gift of a day, easterly winds at 5 to 15 knots, light chop, and waves of 2 to 4 feet.

Monday keeps the good times rolling, continuing fair and warm with isolated showers at most, a gentle start to the week after a weekend to remember.

As for the tides, today’s lows fall at 7:54 AM and 8:10 PM, with highs at 1:42 PM and 2:11 AM tomorrow. The sun rose at 5:27 AM and sets this evening at 6:30 PM. This forecast was prepared by forecaster Catherine Cumberbatch.
