Three injured as jealousy ignites restaurant attack

By Belize Live News Staff: It was supposed to be a simple plate of ceviche. Instead, a Friday night at a Guinea Grass Village restaurant ended with a man slashed open, his brother-in-law stabbed, and his girlfriend bitten and beaten, all, according to the victims, over an old relationship that refuses to die quietly.

The Belize Police Department reports that Jason Solis, 27, Jahira Zetina, 26, both of Guinea Grass Village, and Efrain Zetina, 23, of Orange Walk Town, were seated at the village restaurant at about 11:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, when a party of four, two brothers and two sisters the victims have known since childhood, took the table opposite.

The insults started almost immediately, Solis reported, loud enough that the owner stepped in to warn against trouble in his place. Minutes later, according to the account given to police, one of the women marched over, doused the group with beer, and shoved Jahira Zetina. The room exploded. The brothers swarmed Solis, one in front and one behind, fists flying, and somewhere in the storm of blows a blade came out. Solis surfaced bleeding from his face, his chest, his shoulder, and his back, telling police he genuinely feared he was about to die, and never even saw what cut him.

Efrain Zetina fared little better, stabbed in the head, cut on the knee, and sliced across the stomach. Jahira Zetina was pummelled about the head, her hair yanked, and bitten on the back by the two women.

The spark, Solis told investigators, was jealousy. One of the women is his ex-partner, furious that he has moved on with Jahira Zetina. With the brothers, he said, he had never exchanged a cross word before that night.

The medical findings underline the savagery: grievous harm for Solis, wounding for Efrain Zetina, harm for Jahira Zetina. The scene was processed, witnesses gave statements, and all three victims have asked for court action.

Four people are now wanted by police. Until charges are laid, their names remain unpublished. Anyone with information can reach the Orange Walk police or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 922. In a village where everyone grew up together, someone knows exactly where they are.
