Police fish suspected weed out of a garbage bin

By Belize Live News Staff: An early Sunday walk-through in Orange Walk Town led police to an unusual hiding spot, a garbage bin holding a bag of suspected cannabis.

The Belize Police Department reports that between 7:35 a.m. and 7:50 a.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026, officers on patrol walked through Beaza Alley. One officer spotted a clear plastic bag containing a green leafy substance, believed to be cannabis, sitting inside a blue garbage bin.

Nobody was around to claim it, so the suspected drugs were collected and transported to the Orange Walk Police Station, where they were logged as found property.

Once weighed, the suspected cannabis came in at 22.75 grams. It was then sealed, labelled, and stored as found property.

Police reported no arrests in connection with the discovery, and the matter is being looked into.
