Unstable weather keeps showers coming today

Rain

By Belize Live News Staff: Belizeans should keep the umbrella close and boaters should take extra care today, as moist and unstable conditions continue over the country and a small craft caution goes into effect.

According to the National Meteorological Service, skies will be cloudy at times with a few showers, periods of light rain, or thunderstorms, mostly over southern districts this morning, shifting inland this afternoon, then returning to the south again tonight. Elsewhere and otherwise, showers will be isolated.

Of note, a small craft caution has been issued. Gusty winds and locally rough seas are expected near heavy showers and thunderstorms, and operators of small crafts are urged to exercise caution.

Temperatures along the coast will reach a high of 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 Celsius) and a low of 81 (27 Celsius). Inland areas will be warmer, climbing to 92 degrees Fahrenheit (33 Celsius) and dropping to 73 (23 Celsius). In the hills, expect a high of 80 degrees Fahrenheit (27 Celsius) and a cooler low of 68 (20 Celsius).

At sea, winds will blow from the east at 10 to 20 knots, with moderate seas and waves of 4 to 6 feet.

On the tropical front, there is reassuring news. No tropical cyclone formation is expected over the region during the next 48 hours.

Looking ahead to Friday and Friday night, skies will be partly cloudy with a few showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly over central and southern areas on Friday, with showers increasing over most areas Friday night.

Today’s low tides are at 12:06 PM and 10:58 PM, with a high tide at 6:23 PM and another high at 5:15 AM tomorrow. The sun rose at 5:24 AM and will set at 6:31 PM. The forecast was issued by forecaster Derrick Rudon.
