By Belize Live News Staff: The United Democratic Party is calling Belizeans to the streets, with Opposition Leader Tracy Taegar-Panton announcing a Protest March and Rally as she leveled sharp criticism at the government.
In a statement, Panton seized on the recent news that a member of the Cabinet has taken a 90-day leave of absence pending an audit into allegations of corruption within the Ministry of National Defence. She cast the development as another blow to public trust and, in her view, a sign of a government struggling to address the concerns of ordinary Belizeans. Such descriptions represent the Opposition’s political viewpoint.
Declaring what she called a government in crisis, the Opposition leader announced that the UDP would stage a Protest March and Rally on Friday, July 10, 2026. The party says the march will set off from UDP Headquarters and make its way to Battlefield Park. In her appeal, Panton called on a broad cross-section of the country to participate, from unions, churches, and the business community, to youth, women, workers, and every concerned citizen, framing it as a united stand to demand accountability.
“The people of Belize have had enough,” she said, urging Belizeans to come together in what she described as a national effort. She ended with a call to action, insisting that the time was now and that “Enough is Enough.”
The government, for its part, has said it continues to handle questions of accountability through established processes, including the audit now underway in the defence ministry matter. It is important to note that no findings have yet been reached, and all parties are entitled to due process.
