Wet and cloudy day ahead as a tropical wave moves in

By Belize Live News Staff: It is shaping up to be a damp one across Belize, as a tropical wave passes over the country and brings showers and storms in its wake.

The National Meteorological Service reports that a tropical wave is affecting Belize, with mostly cloudy skies expected today and tonight. Some showers and a few thunderstorms are likely around the country, with the south set to see the most activity.

It will remain warm despite the clouds. Inland areas will see the highest temperatures, reaching 91 degrees Fahrenheit (33 Celsius) before dipping to 74 (23 Celsius). Along the coast, highs will hit 87 degrees Fahrenheit (31 Celsius) with a low of 80 (27 Celsius), while the hills stay cooler, topping out at 80 degrees Fahrenheit (27 Celsius) and falling to 68 (20 Celsius).

Out on the water, winds will blow from the east to northeast at 10 to 20 knots, with moderate seas and waves of 4 to 6 feet.

There is good news on the tropical side, with no tropical cyclone formation expected anywhere in the region over the next 48 hours.

The outlook for Saturday and Saturday night calls for cloudy spells with isolated showers or thunderstorms, and the chance of a few more over the southern part of the country.

As for the tides, high tides today fall at 6:59 AM and 9:03 PM, with low tides at 2:47 PM and 1:25 AM tomorrow. The sun sets at 6:30 PM this evening and rises again at 5:20 AM tomorrow. This forecast was prepared by forecaster Crystal Rosalez.
