By Belize Live News Staff: After a week marked by flooding concerns, road closures, and heavy rainfall in several parts of the country, Belize is expected to enjoy a much calmer weather pattern heading into the weekend.
The latest forecast from the National Meteorological Service indicates that conditions are becoming less moist and less unstable, reducing the likelihood of widespread showers and thunderstorms.
While a few isolated showers remain possible today, particularly along the southern coast tonight, most of the country can expect a mix of sunshine and cloudy spells throughout the day.
The improving forecast will be welcome news for residents in areas that experienced flooding earlier this week. Several communities in central and southern Belize saw rising water levels, while portions of major highways were affected by floodwaters and debris following days of persistent rainfall.
Weather officials say the outlook for Sunday is even more encouraging, with generally fair weather expected across Belize and only isolated showers forecast.
The calmer conditions should allow water levels in flood-prone areas to continue receding and provide an opportunity for cleanup efforts in communities impacted by recent rains.
However, marine conditions remain somewhat rough. A Small Craft Caution remains in effect due to gusty winds and wave heights of up to seven feet. Fishermen and operators of small vessels are advised to remain cautious while at sea.
The forecast also contains another piece of good news for Belizeans: tropical cyclone formation is not expected anywhere in the region during the next 48 hours.
For now, the country appears set to enjoy a break from the heavy rainfall that dominated much of the past week, allowing residents to make the most of what is shaping up to be a much more pleasant weekend.
