By Belize Live News Staff: Belize is making the case that it can be Mexico’s bridge to the Caribbean — and it took that message to a business summit in Quintana Roo this month.
Representatives from the Ministry of Investment, the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit (IPCU) and BELTRAIDE attended the IX AMERIC Business Summit 2026 in Puerto Morelos, Mexico, where the focus was on turning the Chetumal border area into a launchpad for reaching new markets. The event drew Mexican companies and government representatives, including officials from Quintana Roo’s economic development secretariat and the Office of the Governor.
In a joint presentation with the Quintana Roo government, Belize promoted the Belize–Mexico border region as a logistics, industrial and commercial corridor — one that could connect Mexican goods to Belize and, beyond that, to the wider CARICOM market. The delegation pointed to opportunities to grow trade, strengthen logistics and infrastructure, and attract new investment.
A centrepiece of the pitch was the Port of Belize Project, which is being designed to tap into the manufacturing, maritime and logistics strengths shared by southern Mexico and Belize, and to help move new products into CARICOM countries.
For Belize, the summit was a chance to deepen its partnership with Quintana Roo and to underline its growing position within regional supply chains. The country’s delegation was led by Lincoln Blake of the IPCU and Ishmael Quiroz of BELTRAIDE.
