By Belize Live News Staff: A combination of unstable weather and gusty winds is creating challenging conditions across Belize today, prompting warnings for both residents and operators of small vessels.
The Belize Meteorological Service reports that moist and unstable conditions are dominating the region, resulting in cloudy weather, showers, thunderstorms, and periods of rain affecting many parts of the country.
Particular concern remains focused on northern and central districts, where heavy rainfall is expected over the next day and a half.
Authorities have maintained an Excessive Rainfall Watch and are advising residents in flood-prone communities to stay informed and be prepared for changing conditions.
At sea, a Small Craft Caution is also in effect. Winds from the southeast are expected to range between 10 and 20 knots, with gusty conditions near showers and thunderstorms.
Sea conditions are forecast to be moderate to rough, with wave heights reaching between five and seven feet.
The weather system is expected to continue influencing Belize through Friday, bringing additional showers and thunderstorms, especially over inland areas during the day and coastal regions Friday night.
While no tropical cyclone development is anticipated at this time, forecasters continue to monitor weather conditions closely as rainfall accumulates across portions of the country.
