By Belize Live News Staff: A joint security operation was conducted in the Corozal District on Tuesday May 26th, 2026, with officers hitting the Sarteneja Road corridor in the early morning hours targeting drugs, firearms, uncustomed goods and illegal immigrants.
The operation ran from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and was carried out by Corozal Road Policing Personnel working alongside Corozal National Transport personnel.
One strategic vehicular checkpoint was established at the Sarteneja Road and Progresso Junction. Approximately 90 vehicles were stopped and checked over the course of the operation. Officers were on the lookout for drugs, firearms, ammunition, uncustomed goods, illegal immigrants and transient criminals. A total of one traffic violation ticket was issued during the checkpoint.
In addition to the fixed checkpoint, officers conducted highway patrol along the Sarteneja Road and carried out village patrols through Progresso, Copper Bank, Chunox and Sarteneja Village. Several vehicles were stopped and searched during those patrols and all appeared to be in order.
No major contraband or illegal activity was reported as a result of the operation.
