By Belize Live News Staff: The latest fuel prices are reigniting debate over wages, taxes and the true cost of living in Belize.
An average Belizean worker earning minimum wage now has to work close to three hours just to purchase a single gallon of gasoline. For many families already struggling with groceries, rent, school expenses and utilities, the situation is becoming increasingly frustrating.
Analysts point out that taxes and government charges still account for a significant portion of every gallon sold at the pump. Premium gasoline carries the heaviest tax burden, while regular gasoline and diesel also include substantial government charges.
As fuel prices continue fluctuating, commuters, taxi operators and small business owners say they are feeling the strain daily. Many Belizeans fear that higher fuel prices will eventually lead to increases in food costs, transportation fares and other essential services nationwide.
