By Belize Live News Staff: Calls for Belize to create a national sex offenders registry are growing louder following a powerful statement released today by the Office of the Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children.
The statement described the registry as “not only necessary, but critical” amid increasing concerns over sexual abuse cases involving persons trusted to protect children and families.
According to the Special Envoy’s Office, Belize must strengthen protections for children by improving accountability and ensuring communities have access to important information regarding convicted offenders.
The release comes at a time when several high-profile allegations involving minors have sparked public outrage nationwide.
The office is now urging citizens, leaders and institutions across Belize to unite in demanding stronger protections for women and children.
