Hit-and-run vehicle bursts into flames on Orange Walk bypass

By Belize Live News Staff: Police in Orange Walk are investigating a hit-and-run incident that ended with a vehicle being destroyed by fire.

Reports indicate that shortly after 11:00 p.m. on May 4, a red Toyota Tacoma collided into a parked Ford F-150 at the intersection of Progress and San Francisco Streets. The Tacoma then fled the scene.

Traffic officers tracked the vehicle by following an oil spill along the roadway, which led them to the bypass area where the pickup was found engulfed in flames.

Investigators believe the front wheel of the Tacoma may have blown out after the collision, and the driver continued driving, causing sparks that ignited the vehicle.

The driver abandoned the burning vehicle and remains unidentified at this time. Police investigations are ongoing.
