Police investigate alleged Belize Buy and Sell phone scam

By Breaking Belize New Staff (HP): Police are investigating a reported online fraud case after a Belize City man claimed he was deceived into paying for a phone that never arrived.

According to police, Alyster Castillo, 22, reported that he agreed to purchase an iPhone 13 Pro Max advertised for sale on social media.

The seller reportedly instructed Castillo to make payments to an Atlantic Bank account, which he did in several installments.

Police say the total amount deposited was $800.

Castillo was informed that the phone would be delivered earlier this week, but the item was never received.

Authorities have obtained deposit receipts and are seeking to question the person connected to the bank account as the investigation continues.
