By Belize Live News Staff: San Ignacio police are investigating after a human skull was discovered along the Macal River on Wednesday evening.
Reports indicate that around 7:30 p.m., authorities responded to information that a skull had been found along the riverside upstream from the boat wharf on the San Ignacio side.
The skull was reportedly discovered by two men who were spearfishing between the low-lying bridge and the Hawkesworth Bridge.
Police visited the scene and, with the assistance of a diver, retrieved the skull from the river. It was subsequently packaged and transported to the San Ignacio Police Station.
At this time, the identity of the remains remains unknown as investigations continue.
