By Belize Live News Staff (HP): Police have detained a driver following a serious traffic accident early Sunday morning that left two passengers injured and hospitalized.
The accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. at the junction of the Philip Goldson Highway and Belikin Boulevard, where a gold Hyundai Tucson reportedly missed the junction and crashed into a drain.
Police say the vehicle sustained extensive damage to the front, and one of the rear wheels was punctured as a result of the impact.
Two passengers were injured in the crash. One woman suffered an open fracture to her left ankle and complained of chest pain, while another passenger sustained a cut above his left eye. Both were transported to KHMH for treatment by ambulance personnel.
The driver was detained, and police say a specimen will be obtained for alcohol concentration analysis. A notice of intended prosecution is to be issued, and scene of crime personnel were contacted to photograph the scene.
Investigations into the accident remain ongoing.
