By Belize Live News Staff: Police in the Orange Walk District are investigating a report of aggravated assault and wounding following a violent incident in Carmelita Village.
According to police, a 40-year-old Belizean man reported that on Sunday, December 14, 2025, around 8:45 p.m., he was at the Carmelita basketball court when he became involved in a verbal confrontation with men he has known for several years.
The man reported that he later left the area and, after receiving a call from a family member regarding the dispute, armed himself with a machete for protection before heading out. While walking behind the Carmelita Government School, he was allegedly attacked and injured with a knife, sustaining cut wounds to his head and upper arm.
Police say the man defended himself and fled the area. Moments later, he reported being confronted again and having a firearm pointed at his chest, causing him to fear for his life. A family member arrived shortly after and helped de-escalate the situation.
Medico-legal forms were issued, and a doctor certified the injuries as wounding. Police, along with Special Branch and Quick Response Team personnel, visited the area and observed signs of blood. Two men from Carmelita Village are being sought as investigations continue.
