By Belize Live News Staff: Police in the Orange Walk District have charged a man following a reported domestic dispute in San Lazaro Village that resulted in injuries to a woman.
According to police, a 25-year-old Belizean woman reported that on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at about 9:00 a.m., she was asleep at her residence when she was awakened by her common-law partner, who demanded that she prepare coffee for him. The woman said she refused, leading to an argument.
Police say the woman reported that during the dispute, the man punched her twice in the face, causing pain and bleeding. Fearing that she would be attacked again, she reportedly struck him once on the back with a motorcycle helmet in self-defense.
The woman’s mother later intervened, allowing the complainant to leave the room. Police say the man allegedly followed her and made threats that caused her to fear for her life and the safety of her children. Police assistance was then requested.
The complainant was issued medico-legal forms, and a doctor later certified her injuries as wounding. Police detained the man who was later formally charged with wounding. He was cautioned and chose to remain silent.
