American Airlines jet diverted to Belize following mid-air engine issue

By Belize Live News Staff: Swift action by airport emergency teams ensured the safe landing of an American Airlines flight that was forced to divert to Belize late this morning due to reported engine trouble. The aircraft, which departed Miami and was bound for El Salvador, radioed in the issue shortly before 11:30 a.m., requesting clearance for an emergency landing.

The Philip Goldson International Airport immediately launched its emergency procedures. Firefighters, medical teams, and airport safety personnel were deployed along the runway as the aircraft approached. The flight landed successfully, and emergency crews confirmed that no injuries or onboard emergencies were reported beyond passenger distress.

Following the landing, passengers disembarked and were directed to await further updates from the airline regarding new travel arrangements. Airport officials say the emergency response demonstrated the effectiveness of PGIA’s readiness systems and the professionalism of its responders.

American Airlines has not yet issued a public statement on what caused the engine malfunction.
