Belize–Cuba relations strengthened as new ambassador presents credentials

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize’s longstanding friendship with Cuba was once again highlighted today as Francis Fonseca welcomed H.E. Mrs. Yahima Martinez Millán, Cuba’s new Ambassador-designate, to officially present copies of her letters of credence.

In her remarks, Ambassador Martinez Millán expressed heartfelt appreciation for Belize’s recent humanitarian assistance to Cuba in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. She noted that Belize’s gesture reflects the true spirit of solidarity that has defined relations between the two countries for decades.

Minister Fonseca emphasized Belize’s continued commitment to collaborative development, particularly in areas where Cuba has been an invaluable partner—such as medical training, healthcare support, and cultural exchange. He congratulated the Ambassador on her appointment and expressed optimism that her leadership will bring fresh momentum to ongoing bilateral initiatives.

The meeting reaffirmed the mutual respect and cooperation that have shaped Belize–Cuba relations, marking the beginning of a promising new chapter in diplomatic engagement.
