Teacher forced to call police on her own brother after he allegedly assaulted her

By Belize Live News Staff: A family dispute in Chan Pine Ridge Village escalated to an alleged assault on Saturday night, landing a 28-year-old man in police custody.

Orange Walk police report that a 25-year-old teacher filed a complaint against her brother, Emerson Aldair Torres, for common assault.

According to the report, the incident began around 10:00 p.m. when the teacher was informed her brother was causing a disturbance in the neighborhood, allegedly while intoxicated. She reportedly went to get him and brought him home.

Once at the residence, Torres allegedly became belligerent, insulting his sister and their parents. When the teacher asked him to stop, Torres allegedly approached and pushed her with both arms.

Another sister present at the home had to intervene to “avoid further problems” and de-escalate the volatile situation.

The family contacted police for assistance, but Torres fled the residence before officers could arrive. Police later located and detained Emerson Torres, a laborer, pending investigation into the report.
