Belize welcomes EU decision granting five-year Schengen visas to Belizeans

By Belize Live News Staff: The Government of Belize has officially welcomed the European Commission’s decision to approve a visa cascade for Belizean nationals holding regular, official, and diplomatic biometric passports.

This important development, which takes immediate effect, was formally communicated to Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Under this new arrangement, Belizeans applying at Schengen embassies in Guatemala or Mexico will now be eligible for five-year multiple-entry Schengen visas. This means that once granted, Belizean travelers will no longer need to reapply each year, provided their biometric passports remain valid throughout the five-year period.

The decision represents the most generous adaptation of the European Union’s Visa Code available to nationals of a third country and is a recognition of Belize’s strong security record and trusted partnership with the European Union.

This measure is expected to enhance travel and mobility opportunities for Belizeans, boosting tourism, business, educational exchange, and family visits between Belize and EU member states.

The Government of Belize expressed its appreciation to the European Commission for this progressive step in strengthening the longstanding and friendly relations between Belize and the European Union.
