Young woman injured in Carmelita highway accident

By Belize Live News Staff: A traffic accident along the Philip Goldson Highway in Carmelita Village has left one woman injured and several traffic offences under investigation.

Police say that around 5:05 p.m. on November 8, a silver Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV and a black Lifan motorcycle collided while heading north toward Orange Walk Town.

The SUV, driven by a 53-year-old Belizean salesman, collided with the rear of the motorcycle after the rider, a 21-year-old laborer, made a sudden left turn without signaling.

The crash sent the rider to the ground, where she sustained minor scrapes to her face, knee, and elbow. She was taken to the Northern Regional Hospital and remains in stable condition.

Police say the SUV driver has been issued a notice of intended prosecution, while the motorcyclist faces charges for driving an unregistered and unlicensed vehicle. The motorcycle’s owner, a 23-year-old teacher, has also been warned for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate her motorcycle.

The investigation remains ongoing.
