19-year-old charged for rape after allegedly holding ex-girlfriend hostage in Orange Walk

By Belize Live News Staff: A 19-year-old man from the Orange Walk District has been charged in connection with a severe case of sexual violence after he allegedly held his ex-girlfriend captive for two days.

Police report that the suspect detained the victim in his Orange Walk apartment from Wednesday, October 22nd, to Friday, October 24th, 2025.

According to the victim’s report, she had gone to visit the suspect but was then violently prevented from leaving. She alleges he assaulted her, slapped her, and told her she could only leave if she had sex with him.

The victim further stated that she was kept locked inside and was denied food, water, and medication. Each time she attempted to escape, he allegedly dragged her back inside. This cycle of abuse continued until Friday morning, when police officers intervened and rescued her.

Police have since obtained video evidence related to the incident. The 19-year-old suspect was charged by Friday evening. His name has not been released by authorities to protect the identity of his victim.
