By Belize Live News Staff: Meteorologist Dylan Federico has sounded an urgent warning about a potential major hurricane developing in the Western Caribbean next week if Tropical Storm Melissa stalls over the region’s exceptionally warm waters.
According to the European weather model, if Melissa lingers in the Caribbean, the combination of high ocean temperatures and favorable atmospheric conditions could trigger rapid intensification. Federico cautioned that the storm “has major hurricane written all over it” should this scenario unfold.
The advisory comes as concern grows across the region, with Belize, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Cuba, Hispaniola, and the Bahamas all being identified as areas that could face severe impacts. Federico urged residents and local authorities to activate hurricane preparedness plans immediately.
Belize’s National Meteorological Service is expected to monitor the system closely in the coming days. Residents are reminded to review their emergency supplies, prepare evacuation plans, and stay tuned to official updates as conditions evolve.
