Government announces BZ$10 million project for rural water security

Belize has received BZ$10 million from the Adaptation Fund to improve climate resilience and water security in rural communities.

By Belize Live News Staff: The approved project, titled “Securing Water Resources through Solar Energy and Innovative Adaptive Management (SEAM),” will be implemented by the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) in partnership with the Ministry of Rural Transformation and the Ministry of Economic Transformation.

Communities in Boom Creek, Dolores, Otoxha (Toledo District) and Copper Bank (Corozal District) will benefit from solar-powered water systems, reforestation, watershed rehabilitation, and capacity-building programs for local water boards.

Expected to begin in early 2026, the five-year project will directly benefit over 1,800 people. It marks the third major project funded by the Adaptation Fund in support of Belize’s national climate initiatives.
