Two active systems in Atlantic but Belize remains safe

By Belize Live News Staff: The National Meteorological Service is monitoring two active systems in the Atlantic, but confirms neither poses any threat to Belize.

At 6:00 a.m., Hurricane Gabrielle was located near latitude 36.4N and longitude 36.5W, or about 535 miles west of the Azores. Gabrielle is moving east at 32 mph with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph.

Meanwhile, at 3:00 a.m., Tropical Storm Humberto was centered near latitude 21.2N and longitude 56.4W, or roughly 480 miles east-northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands. Humberto is moving northwest at 10 mph with sustained winds of 45 mph.

While both systems remain active, neither is projected to affect the Caribbean or Belize. Still, forecasters urge the public to stay alert as the region remains in the peak of the hurricane season.
