Bus driver served with NIP following deadly road collision

By Belize Live News Staff: Police are investigating a fatal collision between a motorcycle and a bus that claimed the lives of two men over the weekend.

Reports indicate that the victims were riding a motorcycle towards Corozal when they crashed head-on with a bus traveling in the opposite direction. Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero confirmed that one rider was wearing a helmet and that speeding is suspected to have contributed to the crash.

When asked if the victims were under the influence, ACP Romero stated that postmortem examinations and blood tests will determine whether alcohol played a role.

The bus driver reported that the motorcycle drifted into his lane. Despite efforts to avoid the collision, the impact occurred, resulting in the fatal outcome. The driver has since been served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution.

Police continue their investigation, and the results will determine whether charges will be brought.
