Attorney ambushed at gunpoint, SUV and documents stolen

By Belize Live News Staff: An armed robbery has left a Belizean attorney without his vehicle and vital documents.

On Sunday night, around 7:45 p.m., attorney Emmanuel Ortiz was accosted by a lone gunman as he prepared to leave his home. The assailant, identified as Shane “Shannie Mack” Espinoza, reportedly broke into Ortiz’s apartment and waited for him to return.

Espinoza pointed a loaded firearm at the attorney and then made off with a black 2016 Toyota 4Runner, Ortiz’s passport, wallet, and cell phone. The vehicle is distinctively marked with three strips of duct tape on its rear right side.

Ortiz later shared his experience on social media, expressing the trauma of having a gun aimed at him: “The car is gone, but the lasting fear is what hurts the most.”

Police are pursuing leads and urge the public to assist in locating both Espinoza and the stolen SUV.
