By Belize Live News Staff: The fake bag controversy has escalated into a high-stakes challenge after Car Guys owner Said Perdomo pledged to buy 250 original JanSport backpack, if A&R agrees to match his offer.
Perdomo, in a social media post, said he is ready to write the check and put 500 genuine bags in the hands of Belizean students, but only if A&R steps up. He also called on ACP Gamboa, aka “Gambis,” to personally distribute the backpacks.
The move follows a recent media interview in which A&R commented on imitations of JanSport bags on the local market. While A&R never once criticized the charitable distribution of the school bags, the interview drew strong public reactions, with many Belizeans saying the focus should remain on helping children prepare for school rather than on debates over authenticity.
By throwing down this challenge, Perdomo has put A&R in the spotlight. If the company agrees, hundreds of students will benefit. If it refuses or remains silent, the company risks deepening its PR troubles.
