By Belize Live News Staff: Police are investigating a hit-and-run incident that left a police officer injured on the George Price Highway. The accident occurred on Friday near Orange Gallery, when Police Constable Javier Waight was struck by a vehicle while riding his motorcycle.
ACP Hilberto Romero of the Office of Criminal and Eastern Division (OCED) confirmed the details. “Police responded to an accident on the George Price Highway near the Orange Gallery. When they met Javier Waight, police constable, he had sustained injuries and his motorcycle was damaged. He reported that he was riding his motorcycle and was struck by a vehicle which did not stop,” Romero explained.
PC Waight was rushed for medical treatment and is currently in stable condition. Authorities say they are seeking the vehicle involved and are reviewing available highway footage to assist the investigation.
When asked whether the officer had been riding in the middle of the road or on the side, Romero clarified, “He reported he was on the side of the road.”
This incident comes just weeks after another police constable, Arcenio Cus, tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run accident on the Phillip Goldson Highway, raising fresh concerns about reckless driving and accountability on Belize’s major highways.
