“I don’t want to be leader just to be leader,” says Tracy Panton

“I don’t want to be leader just to be leader,” says Tracy Panton

By Belize Live News Staff: Opposition Leader Tracy Taegar Panton broke her silence this morning with a Facebook post, expressing concern over the internal turmoil within the United Democratic Party (UDP) and issuing a pointed message on the future of leadership in Belize.

In her “Monday Morning Thoughts,” Panton criticized the current state of the UDP, saying, “The people are exhausted by all the internal shenanigans… They are tired of being tired.” She made it clear that the public no longer wants hollow leadership, but rather one grounded in mutual respect, inclusion, and integrity.

Without explicitly naming names, Panton distanced herself from any backroom dealings or power plays, stating that she does not seek to be leader for ego’s sake. “I don’t want to be leader, for the sake of being leader,” she said, emphasizing that leadership should come from genuine service and not political ambition.

She added, “I will not compromise my values or principles for the sake of becoming leader,” drawing a line in the sand as speculation grows over who will succeed as the next leader of the UDP.

While the party remains fractured, Panton’s call for unity, inclusion, and trust in the people may resonate with Belizeans weary of partisan infighting. Her statement reaffirms a deeper desire for change, not just within the UDP, but in the nation’s political culture as a whole.

Her closing echoed resilience: “No weapon formed against me will prosper. I will walk through a raging fire and I will not be burned… When the dust settles, we will know what to do.”
