By Belize Live News Staff: A Belizean woman is under investigation after allegedly using Facebook to post a defamatory statement about a police officer.
On Tuesday, July 29, around 9:29 a.m., a Belize police officer filed a report at the Crimes Investigation Branch at Precinct 1, stating that he had been humiliated online. According to the report, the officer was informed earlier that morning that a Facebook post had surfaced targeting him.
Upon checking the social media platform, he discovered a post made by a user with the profile name “Shan Tel FlowerB,” which included a photo of him and his family along with a caption suggesting he was intoxicated while on duty.
The post read in part:
“Imagine right every morning I wake up 2:00am fi go dah work rii and this one morning day decide fi fuk wit my timings breda ….you wah come in my spot look how high he you could see it clearly he high bro.. today u ah feel fi fuk wit me drunkig Police.”
The officer recognized the individual in the profile photo as a 22-year-old Belizean cook of Ponsetta Street who had been detained earlier that day for a traffic offense. The officer had assisted in that arrest.
The post left the officer feeling embarrassed, ridiculed, and humiliated, prompting him to take formal action. Police have since obtained screenshots of the post and secured the suspect’s phone. The woman was detained pending investigation.
