By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize Police Department is preparing to bring charges against a man who allegedly struck and killed Police Constable Arcenio Cus in a hit-and-run incident earlier this week. Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado confirmed that investigators have gathered evidence, including surveillance footage, and expect to formally lay charges shortly.
The driver, who reportedly turned himself in the day after the accident, is currently in police custody in Ladyville and is expected to be arraigned as early as today.
“In reference to the fatal of PC Cus, I know the investigators have collected evidential material including video footage and charges should be laid today,” said Commissioner Rosado. He refrained from providing further details, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. “I do not want to discuss the details of the investigation so as not to prejudice the investigation.”
Dr. Rosado emphasized that multiple offenses may be involved in the case. “There are a number of offences that have been committed when the fatal accident occurred. Our investigators are trying to gather as much evidence to lay all possible charges against the individual.”
The Police Department continues to work closely with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to ensure due process and justice in the case.
