By Belize Live News Staff: The sudden death of 34-year-old Marilyn Roches has left a Belmopan family shattered and searching for answers. Roches was killed on impact early Wednesday morning when the motorcycle she was riding on collided with a wall on South Ring Road. Her friend, 33-year-old Takudzwa Kaseke, who was driving the cycle, escaped with minor injuries.
Roches leaves behind five children, now motherless, and a grieving family already acquainted with loss. Her sister, Kamisha Cardenes, said the family has buried five siblings before, but this incident is the hardest yet.
“This hit us hard,” said Cardenes, who described her sister as a beautiful soul who lit up every room she entered. “She’s fearless. She’s love. She’s everything to everyone—especially her kids.”
Cardenes recounted how Marilyn made a special visit on her birthday just days ago, promising to return. “She said she’d be back, but she never made it. That night, I lost my sister.”
The pain for the Roches family is layered. Not only did they lose a sister and mother, but they also carry the burden of raising her children. “I don’t even know how to tell them. I don’t know how to console them,” Cardenes said tearfully. “She was their everything.”
The family is calling for a thorough investigation. They want to understand what really happened that night and why the driver, who walked away with scratches, is still alive while Marilyn isn’t.
The driver has been issued a notice of intended prosecution. Police have also collected urine samples from him to determine if alcohol was involved.
