$10K bail, big questions: Guerra in hot water over teen complaint

By Belize Live News Staff: Former Benque Viejo Mayor and ex-Ambassador to Cuba, Said Badi Guerra, is out on bail after being hit with grave charges: sexual assault, harm, and procuring defilement by threat.

The 50-year-old politician appeared before the Benque Magistrate’s Court today, just a week after a complaint was filed by a 16-year-old male from San Ignacio, who alleges Guerra assaulted him on July 14 while he was under the influence of alcohol.

Facing cameras, Guerra did not deny knowing the teen and even clarified the complainant’s exact age. But he fiercely denied the allegations, calling for a more compassionate public. “This is the first time I’ve ever been accused of anything like this,” he said. “Don’t crucify me over an allegation.”

Guerra was granted $10,000 bail with two sureties. The case has triggered shock and scrutiny as the country waits for answers and justice.
