By Belize Live News Staff: In a move that underscores the persistent dysfunction within the United Democratic Party, former chairman Michael Peyrefitte has resigned yet again — this time via WhatsApp. The announcement followed the collapse of a National Party Council meeting and internal efforts to restore unity.
Peyrefitte’s resignation is not unexpected. In June, he had already made it clear that if the party didn’t improve its internal processes and leadership dynamics, he would not stick around. He cited a lack of transparency and a general sense of frustration from members across the country.
Wednesday morning’s news confirms what many already suspected — the UDP remains deeply divided, and Peyrefitte has decided not to wait around for things to improve. As he steps away once again, the job falls to Vice Chairman Alberto August, who will face the uphill task of keeping the party intact.
The bigger question remains: where does the UDP go from here?
