By Belize Live News Staff: A major boost is coming for Belize’s national defense. The BDF has announced plans to recruit 300 new soldiers in a double intake, according to Commander Brigadier General Azariel Loria.
Loria says the initial phase will bring in 150 recruits, with another 150 to follow. Though the plan was to start in July, delays in ammunition, weapons, and gear have pushed the timeline toward late September. Once everything is in place, recruitment and training will span 8 to 10 months.
The need for more soldiers comes at a time when national security concerns are growing, and the military is under pressure to be better prepared. With this expansion, the BDF is sending a clear message — it’s ready to build a stronger, more responsive force.
