By Belize Live News Staff: In line with its commitment under Plan Belize 2.0, the Government of Belize has officially declared two GST-free weekends to ease the financial burden of back-to-school shopping on Belizean families.
According to a Cabinet release, no General Sales Tax (GST) will be charged on purchases made during two designated periods: Thursday, July 31st to Saturday, August 2nd, and Friday, August 15th to Sunday, August 17th, 2025.
These GST holidays apply to goods commonly associated with back-to-school needs—such as uniforms, school supplies, footwear, and select electronics—although a full list is expected to be announced soon.
The initiative is part of a broader economic relief effort designed to support working-class Belizeans as they prepare their children for the new academic year.
Government officials are encouraging shoppers to plan ahead, buy locally, and make the most of the tax-free windows.
Retailers are expected to display signs indicating GST-free eligibility, and the Belize Tax Service will be monitoring compliance throughout the event.
Shoppers are reminded to keep receipts and confirm that no GST was applied during the specified weekends.
The GST-free weekends form part of Plan Belize 2.0’s focus on cost-of-living relief and educational access for all Belizeans.
