Nestor Mendez, first Belizean ASG at OAS, ends tenure after a decade

By Belize Live News Staff: Belizean diplomat Nestor Mendez has officially stepped down after ten years as Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), concluding a historic chapter in international service.

Mendez was the first Belizean to hold the post and served two terms with distinction. At his farewell, he gave an emotional tribute to Belize, calling it the “bastion of democracy and stability” and reflecting on his journey from rural Belize to the global stage.

“This is the country where I come from,” Mendez said. “I’m extremely blessed and proud. Thank you to my country.”
