By Belize Live News Staff: Belize’s new 2025 banknote series is set to enter circulation on August 4, 2025, according to the Central Bank of Belize. The updated currency features modern security enhancements, cultural themes, and redesigned portraits that celebrate Belizean identity.
The Central Bank has emphasized that while the look and feel of the notes have changed, the value has not—the fixed exchange rate of BZ$2 to US$1 remains in effect. Governor Kareem Michael said the new series represents a major step forward in national security and public trust in the currency.
The new banknotes will be accessible at all domestic banks starting August 4, though not all ATMs will immediately dispense the redesigned notes. ATM systems are still being configured and are expected to be fully updated in the weeks following the launch.
Existing banknotes will still be valid for use, but the Central Bank is urging Belizeans to deposit their older notes at banks to assist in the gradual transition.
The bank has spent months engaging with schools, businesses, and the wider public to ensure a seamless rollout of the new currency. More information is available on the Central Bank’s website at www.centralbank.org.bz.
