By Belize Live News Staff: Moisture from a low-pressure system in the Bay of Campeche continues to impact Belize’s weather, with central and northern areas seeing the brunt of the rainfall early Saturday.
While conditions are expected to improve later today, forecasters caution that the risk of excessive rainfall remains high, particularly in flood-prone zones.
The day’s general forecast calls for cloudy weather with occasional sunny intervals, transitioning to partly cloudy skies tonight. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to taper off by evening.
As of this morning, the Meteorological Service of Belize has maintained an Excessive Rainfall Watch, citing a risk of heavy rain accumulation over the next 12 hours.
The tropical weather outlook highlights a developing system in the Bay of Campeche. Though it has a medium chance of forming into a tropical depression, forecasters stress that it poses no direct cyclone threat to Belize at this time. Nevertheless, the system is enhancing moisture in the region and supporting disorganized but intense rainfall.
Small craft operators are warned to remain vigilant due to gusty winds and locally rough seas, particularly in areas affected by strong showers. Winds are blowing from the east to southeast at 10 to 20 knots, and sea states are moderate to rough with wave heights between five to seven feet.
Sunday’s outlook is for drier conditions with isolated showers or thunderstorms under partly cloudy skies. Residents are urged to remain weather-aware and heed all advisories as the system continues to influence regional weather patterns.
